This wine has been made using a solera system where wine is taken out for bottling and the barrels are topped up with younger fortified wine. The oldest material in the blend goes back to the 1960s while the youngest material is from 2002 with the average age being around 30 years.
The 2002 wine is the last fortified we have made and while tawny ports are wonderful wines, the real production cost has meant that fortified wines are a disappearing entity. After our current stock in barrel is depleted there will be no more made so enjoy these while you can.
Wines like this are becoming exceedingly rare with businesses no longer prepared to make wines that are matured 29 years prior to release. This is our last release of this wine and this wine can be cellared for a few hundred years with wine getting better with time.
