Derived from the Spanish word for blood ('sangre') due to its deep red colour, Sangria is a fruity and refreshing cocktail that hails from the Iberian Peninsula. Like many other ancient recipes that have stood the test of time, Sangria was created out of necessity and resourcefulness. Legend has it that it was invented over 2,000 years ago in Spain when water wasn't always safe to drink, so it was fortified with wine, herbs and spices to help kill off any bacteria. Today, a classic sangria is made with a delicious mixture of red wine, chopped fruit, fruit juice, sweetener and ice.
Sangria is made to be shared. Our Sangria mocktail recipe uses McGuigan Zero Pinot Noir as the star ingredient, making it a fantastic, family-friendly crowd-pleaser to serve at your next event.
Our non-alcoholic version of Sangria is an exciting party beverage that everyone can enjoy including non-drinkers, pregnant women, designated drivers, and even children.
It's ideal for entertaining a large group because it can be made in a large pitcher or punch bowl ahead of time, and it's easy for your guests to serve themselves.
With aromas of strawberry, red cherry and spice, McGuigan Zero Pinot Noir is the perfect base ingredient for this mocktail Sangria.
We recommend keeping any leftover Sangria in the fridge for no more than 48 hours. If kept any longer, the fruit and wine will oxidise and start to turn into vinegar.
To add another week or two to your Sangria, remove all the solid fruit pieces from the mix and freeze the liquid in an ice cube tray. The ice cubes can be defrosted in a glass to be enjoyed on another occasion.
There is no hard or fast rule when it comes to what fruit or spices to use in your Sangria. While citrus fruit, like oranges and lemons, work well with crisp green apples and juicy pears, you could mix things up with different types of berries, or tropical fruit including pineapple, mango or kiwi fruit. The possibilities are endless, so use what you have on hand or what's currently in season.
The best wine to make Sangria is one with low tannins and high acidic content. McGuigan Zero Pinot Noir Alcohol Free and McGuigan Zero Red Blend Alcohol Free are both great choices for making a non-alcoholic Sangria. The McGuigan Zero range is crafted just like our other wines but has an extra step to remove the alcohol at the end of the production process. The varietals included in the McGuigan Zero range are a delicious alcohol-free alternative to your favourite wine, and as an added bonus, they are also lower in calories, sugar and are gluten free.
Soft and supple, this wine has a red fruit-driven palate with a light sour cherry finish. The blend of fruits complemented with a hint of spice and high acidic content makes it the perfect wine to create a delicious and aromatic mocktail Sangria.
With aromas of plums and blackcurrants complemented by mocha and spice aromas, the generous sweet fruit palate of this non-alcoholic wine also works as an excellent base for a mocktail Sangria.
Having an inclusive selection of beverages at your next social gathering is a considerate touch. Our McGuigan Zero wine range includes five delicious, rich and full-flavoured non-alcoholic varietals that overcome the outdated notion that not drinking is boring.
