Perce McGuigan is a legendary figure in the Australian wine industry. His official wine career spanned for three decades from the 1940’s, however in truth his love affair with wine is much longer.
It all began at the age of 5 when Perce would follow his father Owen around the vineyards picking grapes for a penny a bucket. While grape picking was a part of his early life, Perce wanted more and worked as a clerk in the dairy industry with visions of becoming a school teacher. The lure of the wine industry however was too great and Percy’s illustrious wine career began as a manager of Penfold’s Dalwood property in the Upper Hunter Valley before pionerring the Lower Hunter Valley in the 1960's for Penfolds.
This was a time of great change and innovation for the Australian wine industry, and Perce was always proudly at the forefront. So much so that Perce has recently been inducted as an inaugural Hunter Valley Living Legend in recognition of his part in shaping the regions prominence and popularity.
